A Year-Long Quilt Block Odyssey

Alright Blade Runners, buckle up—Next year we’re launching Block Runner 2049, our very own block-swap adventure. Think round robin, but with more chaos, and questionable creative decisions.

JOIN THE MISSION

Each month, one of us becomes the Featured Runner, and the rest of us create a quilt block based on their inspiration prompt:

  • 12 months

  • 12 prompts

  • 12 chances to create something spectacular or unhinged

  • 1 quilt future worth running toward

At the end of 12 months, every Runner will have a stack of blocks made for them, by us, infused with our styles, our quirks, and probably some accidental bias-seam distortion fields.

It’s collaborative. It’s chaotic. It’s quilting in the dystopian future.

There are only three rules:

  1. Follow the inspiration prompt - interpret loosely or aggressively—your choice

  2. Keep blocks the same size - the featured runner will give the dimensions

  3. Deliver on time = Deliver by the first week of the next month. We understand that things can happen, so just inform the runner and keep them updated.

By the end of the year, we’ll each have a set of blocks ready to assemble into whatever masterpiece/madness the future demands.

How Block Runner 2049 Works

Each month, one group member becomes the Featured Runner. They’ll share a prompt that can be as specific or mysterious as they choose:

  • A color palette

  • A song or quote

  • A vibe (skulls, deadly flowers, slice n dice, improv planets)

  • A movie

  • A classic or modern quilt block

  • A block from a quilt pattern

The rest of us interpret that prompt and create a block for the Featured Runner. At the end of the month, they’ll have a small collection of blocks built just for them — stitched through the lens of each member’s unique style (accidental wonkiness included).

By the end of the year, everyone will have 12 blocks made entirely by the group. Twelve tiny pieces of collaborative art. Twelve portals into our collective creativity. Twelve reasons to finally use that fabric we’ve been saving “for something special.”
